Somerleyton Road, Brixton honoured at New London Architecture Awards

igloo’s innovative community housing scheme at Somerleyton Road, Brixton has won the best Unbuilt Housing scheme category at the 2016 New London Architecture awards. The annual awards celebrate the best architecture and development recently completed or in design across the capital.

From a shortlist of 136 projects, 26 category winners were honoured across all sectors of London’s built environment, ranging from Housing to Offices, Education to Transport & Infrastructure, and Public Spaces to Masterplans & Area Strategies. Each scheme was selected by a prestigious international jury advised by London-based experts for having both the highest design quality and most positive social and economic impact for London.

Somerleyton Road, Brixton, SW9 is a community collaboration between Metropolitan Workshop, Haworth Tompkins, Mae, Foster Wilson and Zac Monro for LB Lambeth, Ovalhouse, Brixton Green and is funded and managed by igloo. The project will combine cultural, health and community facilities with around 250-300 affordable homes for the local community.

Acting as retained development manager to Lambeth Council (as funder and client) and their community partners, igloo’s role will see the project through from initial concept stage to completion.
