Porth Teigr, Cardiff Bay was once one of the world’s busiest ports. Today it is one of Europe’s most significant waterfront, transformational mixed use property projects and home to a growing vibrant community.
Delivered in partnership with the Welsh Government, the first phase of the development is now complete and includes the 170,000 sq ft Roath Lock Studios, home to BBC Wales producing Casualty, Doctor Who and many other programmes. The studios were purpose built to their specification for high definition television. The studios are one of the largest investments in new drama facilities in Europe and the first and largest industrial building in the UK to be awarded BREEAM ‘Outstanding’.
The development also includes delivery of the Gloworks Creative Industries Centre for the Welsh Government and the BBC Worldwide’s Doctor Who Experience, together with amenities such as cafes, shops and public art. Planning permission has just been granted for the next phase, a 104 home waterside residential project, with further phases planned to meet high market demand.
The project is central to the final stages of the long term regeneration of Cardiff Bay.
Working in partnership with the Welsh Government, igloo worked hard and with care to ensure that Porth Teigr is a sustainable, creative place, and now home to an exciting, growing community where people work, live and play.
